Role: Assistant/Associate Editor

Location : Chicagoland, hybrid

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a branch of the natural sciences
• 3+ years of experience writing and editing content for elementary or middle school
• 3+ years of experience working on digital curriculum products or recent experience teaching science at the elementary or middle level
• Experience with curriculum development a plus

Skills & Knowledge: Excellent English language and writing skills, including rewriting; proficiency in editing, especially of material written for children; familiarity with copy editing; expertise in following curriculum standards; flexibility; willingness to pivot to new projects as needed

Responsibilities:

• Writes, edits, and reviews reference articles on all areas of science for a middle-school audience.
• Reviews the work of other editors and contributors and recommends action to be taken.
• Helps plan and review curriculum features, including interactives and other media.
• Helps plan new curriculum products.
• Works with media departments to commission new art, revise existing images, and choose new photographs.
• Performs other duties as requested.
