Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and 3 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
Experience using visual creativity to plan and create a variety of content for multiple platforms including printed publications, electronic newsletters websites, photos and videos.
Experience managing digital and print campaigns to keep content and design fresh and using analytics to track performance.
Experience working with and representing the Iowa State University WorkCyte Program brand to produce communication deliverables in alignment with brand style and goals.
Experience writing for a variety of targeted audiences and adapting techniques that enhance message engagement.
Experience managing or co-managing a communications project with multiple contributors.

Job Description:

Summary

Under the supervision of the communications supervisor, the communications specialist II supports enterprise communications strategies for the department of Information Technology Services and WorkCyte program and by drafting and editing effective written as well as visual content. Content development for communications includes graphic assets and support, web content, presentation materials, news articles and employee and student messaging for a variety of audiences.


Example of Duties

Works on internal and external communications projects, including website and intranet creation, management of media, public relations and written, targeted messaging.

Designs, reviews, edits and produces visual content, employing graphic design skills for innovative and in-line branding.
Writes, reviews, edits and delivers written communications content with attention to purpose and relevancy.

Reviews and/or edits layouts, drafts, and information in order to check for content, readability, and style.
Conducts the required research and analysis for communication planning.
Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining internal and external policies and programs to ensure that the organization is represented positively to constituents and stakeholders as well as the general public, including media relations, and internal employee communications.

Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems

May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
Provides guidance to students
