Job Summary:

We are seeking a Key Account Manager – Business Development with a strong background in sales, account management, and business development within the packaged consumer food industry. This role focuses on managing key retail grocery and foodservice accounts, expanding our brand presence, and fostering long-term partnerships. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and is eager to contribute to a medium-sized company where their efforts make a direct impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Account Management & Sales Growth: Develop and execute strategic sales plans to drive revenue and expand market share within assigned retail grocery and foodservice accounts.
  • Retail & Foodservice Expertise: Leverage industry knowledge to optimize product placement, promotional strategies, and category management.
  • New Business Development: Identify and secure new business opportunities by engaging key decision-makers in grocery retail chains, wholesalers, distributors, and food service operators.
  • Customer Engagement: Strengthen and grow relationships with existing customers through store visits, product support, and strategic follow-ups.
  • Presentation & Marketing Support: Prepare presentation materials and samples for new business opportunities; collaborate with marketing to support sales initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sales, marketing, and operations teams to execute key business strategies.
  • Negotiation & Contracts: Lead contract negotiations, pricing discussions, and trade spend management to maximize profitability.
  • Data-Driven Sales Strategies: Utilize market insights, category analytics, and consumer trends to influence sales strategies and customer recommendations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 3-7 years of sales or account management experience in the packaged consumer food industry, with a focus on retail grocery and/or food service.
  • Experience working with national & regional retail accounts (i.e. Kroger, Publix, Albertsons, Sysco, US Foods, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of grocery retail operations, distributor networks, and category management.
  • Ability to analyze sales data and market trends to drive strategic decisions.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-motivated with a hunter mentality for new business development.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Thrives in a medium-sized, entrepreneurial company environment—adaptable, hands-on, and comfortable working cross-functionally.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
