Position Title: Power Generation Engineer II or III

Location: Richmond, VA

Position Status: Open

Position Description:

Dominion Energy is seeking an Electrical Power Systems Engineer (II/III) to join the Power Generation Engineering Group, supporting the Non-Nuclear Power Generation fleet. This includes:

• Conventional fossil, combined cycle, hydro, wind, and solar power plants
• Future support for offshore wind and battery storage projects under the Virginia Clean Economy Act (CEA)

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform power systems analysis (short circuit, load flow, overcurrent coordination, arc flash)
• Develop and maintain electrical system models (ETAP, PSS/E, PSLF, etc.)
• Support NERC compliance (MOD, PRC, FAC standards)
• Conduct protective relay settings calculations and develop logic diagrams
• Evaluate new generation designs and modifications to existing systems
• Oversee electrical equipment installation and commissioning (switchgear, transformers, motors)
• Provide technical support for plant operations and market operations
• Perform root cause analysis and implement process improvements

Required Experience & Skills:

Engineer II:

• 3+ years of relevant engineering experience
• Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, power systems, and configuration management
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills

Engineer III:

• 6+ years of engineering experience (Master’s degree may count toward experience)
• Expertise in IEEE, NEC, and industrial power systems (up to 35 kV)
• Experience with fault analysis, relay coordination, and SCADA systems
• Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards
• Proficiency in ETAP, PSS/E, PSLF, or similar tools

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
• Master’s degree (preferred)
• ABET-accredited program or equivalent (see detailed criteria in posting)

Work Environment:

• Hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 remote)
• Occasional travel (up to 25%)
• Exposure to industrial plant conditions (noise, heat, energized equipment)
