Job Description

Job Title: Research Associate

Location: Johnston, IA, 50131

Duration: Until 12/2025

Pay rate: $28 - $31.03 per hour

W2 contract only (No C2C)

Job Purpose:

As a member of the Regulatory Sciences team, act as Research Associate for PCR molecular analyses for regulatory biosafety studies. Responsible for following experimental and laboratory procedures according to agreed upon protocols, for collecting, organizing and summarizing study data and for providing support to other laboratory personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide molecular analysis support for Regulatory Sciences and Registration:

  • Perform DNA extraction, sample weighing, control generation, master mix preparation, and PCR plate setup
  • Offer technical support to investigate, develop, and/or adapt methods to address:
  • Molecular technology issues within the laboratory
  • New data requirements
  • Document experimental protocols, methods, and results in accordance with government regulatory requirements
  • Maintain record management practices in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Participate in GLP-compliant experiments to address key scientific questions
  • Evaluate PCR-related technical issues, collaborate with laboratory personnel to formulate experimental plans, and implement next steps to resolve issues
  • Maintain laboratory resources such as inventory, safety, and calibrations

2. Ensure adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP):

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), methods, and worksheets for analytical procedures and equipment including:
  • Sample weighing
  • DNA extraction
  • Reagent preparation
  • Genomic controls
  • PCR
  • Maintain equipment maintenance logs for daily, routine, and non-routine tasks

3. Support regulatory studies related to trait package preparation:

  • Coordinate research, greenhouse, and lab efforts to obtain required materials (e.g., tissues, reagents, labware)
  • Document and prepare study records
