Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a civil engineer specializing in transportation drainage to join our Raleigh office.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Apply roadway design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications and materials to engineering designs
• Use of software applications to include engineering design and drainage analysis programs
• Apply peak discharge hydrology, open and closed system design, erosion and sediment control features, and stormwater management
• Apply engineering principles as they relate to hydraulic, roadway design and standard design technical knowledge
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers
• Perform preliminary and detailed engineering design tasks for water resources and related civil engineering projects including:
• Stormwater management and drainage infrastructure permitting and design, preferably locally.
• Stormwater hydrology and hydraulics
• Watershed assessment & planning
• Urban flood risk and floodplain management
• Flood protection and resilience
• Low impact development/green infrastructure
• Performs numerical modeling in support of stormwater and drainage improvements projects

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
• 0-2 years of experience as a civil engineer, preferably with experience in 3D modeling, transportation engineering, site layout, stormwater, erosion control, utilities, and other infrastructure systems
• EIT licensure, or intent on obtaining the EIT within 3 months of hire, required
• Software
• AutoCAD
• MicroStation
• Civil3D
• SWMM
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
• Availability and willingness to travel
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
